Every member of our team is valuable. Molly is our official greeter and customer satisfaction manager.
DEBBIE SMITH-VOIGHT is the President of Smith Custom Framing, Ltd. and one of the founders of Smith Custom Framing & Victorian Galleries. She is also one of the area's few Certified Picture Framers, the profession's standard of excellence.
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Temple University with a BA in Theatre, Debbie found herself in New York City, pursuing her dream of singing and a career in the theatre. She continues to sing and act today as a featured performer and singer in regional professional theatres and is seen occasionally in a variety of television commercials. She returned home in 1986 to establish the partnership with her parents that created our original home in New Cumberland. With her parents retirement in 1998, Debbie assumed sole ownership of the business, relocating it to our present location which was originally our "manufacturing" center.
Under Debbie's creative guidance, Smith Custom Framing & Fine Art Gallery has become the area's premier custom frame shop and art gallery, winning Harrisburg Magazine's coveted Simply The Best "Reader Choice" five out of the past six years for art gallery and custom frame shop! She is also proud of her four consecutive "Best of Show" awards with the West Shore Chamber of Commerce's Business & Industry Night, where she also served on its governing Board of Directors.
Debbie has volunteered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Children's Miracle Network, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Pennsylvania Big 33, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society, in addition to her contributions to the various local community theatres.
RICK VOIGHT has watched Smith Custom Framing from the sidelines since its birth in New Cumberland two decades ago. For the early years, Rick's involvement was as a willing and available extra hand, helping out as needed in various aspects of the business. More recently he has assumed a more active role, but still more behind the scenes. His responsibilities include much of our non-artistic needs as well as serving as our resident calligrapher, pen-and-ink artist for home portraits, photographer and our in-house advertising and graphic design work specialist.
Rick received an MA in Humanities from Penn State University and his BA in Government Administration from Shippensburg University. A former lobbyist, he had a lengthy career in non-profit association management and served in the Ridge Administration. He has served on many local volunteer boards and is a past president of the Penn State Harrisburg Alumni Society.
He has a lifetime of involvement in the local arts community, performing on local stages for more than four decades! Over the past few years, he has had the opportunity to act in major feature films, appear in national commercials, and continue his professional work on stage. Look for him on the big screen in a theatre near you!
POLLY SMITH along with her late husband, Sig, was a founder of The Smiths Framing in 1982 in her home in Mechanicsburg. After a few years, she and Sig (mostly Sig!) decided they needed more room for their young business which was growing too fast for their basement and garage... and Smiths Custom Framing & Victorian Galleries became a reality with their move to New Cumberland in 1986. While Polly and Sig retired from the business in 1999, she continues to work with us when duty calls... she remains the finest of craftsmen when it comes to lacing delicate needlework for framing... and we continue to call on her years of expertise in the art gallery and custom framing business.
Polly is a graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia with a BS in Music Education and received her masters in Music Education from Ithaca College. She continues her love of music as a private piano teacher in the Central Pennsylvania area and volunteers her time for many different local charities.
SIG SMITH was the creative genius and strongest influence for all of us in the growth and development of Smith Custom Framing, Ltd. The man who had an idea and a vision in the early 1980s, Sig Smith's presence in everything we do, everyday is felt deeply by us all... and sincerely appreciated for all of his many contributions to what we are today.
Sig started this business, pure and simple, with his vision and ability to do just about everything and anything from carpentry and fine woodworking to computers and everything electronic. He literally built the building we are now in with his bare hands and gutted and transformed our original home in New Cumberland from just another decaying brick home into a Victorian mansion and showplace. It is his legacy that is Smith Custom Framing today.
A rare and true Renaissance man, Sig Smith excelled in everything. He received his doctorate in Math from Penn State, following two masters and an undergraduate degree. Professionally, he served as a vice president of two colleges and the president of another in New York, and as the founding executive director for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' Legislative Office for Research Liaison. He also was a professional baseball player (for the old Brooklyn Dodgers), a professional boxer and still holds the single game scoring record in basketball for Albany State!
We miss him... and thank him every day.
