‘Tis the Season for Gifting Art (Part III)
Seventeenth Musing

by Ms. Terious

I’ve discussed quite a few ideas for gifting art in the holiday season and here are a few more ideas that were still in the gift box, waiting to be unwrapped.

Your budget is a very important consideration when gifting art. If necessary, talk with someone from The Smith Gallery to determine if your budget is in line with your expectations. Don’t despair, you can find lovely small sculptures and giclee prints for under $100.00.

Gift certificates are a perfect safe bet as a gift, as the gift receiver can choose whatever they want either in art, framing, or other items from the gallery, yes even a credit toward a commissioned piece from the local artist of their choice.

Commissioned pieces will be another Musing as there is a lot to cover in setting up a commissioned piece. Many artists love providing commissioned pieces and Smith Gallery can help you in exploring that possibility.

What about children? Is it ever too early to think about helping them build an art collection and develop an interest in art? It is never too early. I can mention a young man I know who has been gifted with art since he was a baby. He is now a young adult and has a great love for art – all types of art – and never takes a trip without including a gallery or a museum in the mix of places to see.  And since art is so important to him, he has become a fantastic photographer, snapping photos in museums, galleries, and on street corners. I like to think that this Muse helped inspire his artistic personality.

With children and art, perhaps you want to start small. What about a lovely children’s book written by a local artist. This could be the segue into purchasing art by the same artist. Having a birth announcement framed is another thought, as is a photo of the child and a loved pet that has been framed specially for the child’s bedroom.

In this three-part series for gifting art there have been over a dozen suggestions for you to create that timeless and thoughtful gift during the holiday season – and in fact for any gift giving time throughout the year. If you haven’t yet, take a moment to read Part I and Part II.

Plan a day to visit The Smith Gallery & Fine Custom Framing and speak with the helpful and experienced staff to find a gift of art that will last a lifetime. And while there, you may come up with a few gift ideas of your own.

Artists whose works have been showcased here are: Karen Morton, Stuart Leask, Richard Michaelian, Susan Getty.

Please visit the The Smith Gallery to view more art by these artists and many other talented artists and view our ArtTalks videos for conversations with artists.
